2025.07.08-2025.09.07
Exhibition Halls 1 and 2, National Museum of History, Taiwan
This special exhibition unravels the academic narrative of orchids in Taiwan from both the Japanese and Taiwanese perspectives, as part of the outcomes of the academic exchange agreement concluded in 2024 between The University Museum, The University of Tokyo (UMUT), and the National Museum of History, Taiwan (NMH).
Following the Tokyo edition held at the Intermediatheque from February to June 2025, the Taipei edition at NMH presents approximately 200 rare items that bridge natural science and the arts. With a unique display different to that in Tokyo, it features works from NMH’s collection of orchid-themed calligraphy and paintings from the Qing dynasty, the Japanese colonial period, and the postwar era.
The exhibition also includes the University of Tokyo’s botanical art collection, on view in Taiwan for the first time. Gallery texts will be provided in Chinese, English, and Japanese—just like the trilingual comprehensive catalog, which reflects the content of both the Tokyo and Taipei editions.
