概要

The original fossil was found in May 1964 on Machikane hill in Osaka (Japan), in a Pleistocene layer dating from the Cenozoic era (approximately 450000 ± 50000 years ago). This crocodilian was given its name from the place where the fossil was found. The original fossil, a type specimen, is part of the Museum of Osaka University collection, where it is exhibited. It was designated National Registered Monument in October 2014.
