It is distributed in the Ryukyus, Taiwan, SE Asia, and Oceania. Box fruits (fruits of Sea Poison Tree) are used as a fish poison. The Japanese name "Goban-no-ashi" means "legs of a go board", because the shape of the fruits look alike.
