Giant Insects in Shigeru Eda Collection
Mainly late 20th Century / Dried specimens / UMUT
概要
Shigeru Eda (1930-2008) was a great collector of strange and beautiful insects throughout the world. Some gigantic and curious items from his collection donated to the UMUT are shown here. In the current earth environment, the body size of insects is limited by their body structure, body mass and respiratory system, as well as by predators. Among these specimens, Attacus atlas is the largest Lepidoptera in Japan. Leaf insects are a miracle of evolution.
