Models built to experimentally prove the relation of a boat’s form and its propulsion resistance. As a belonging of Takesada Tokugawa (1888-1957), the models were passed down to the Department of Nautical Engineering in the Engineering School at Tokyo Imperial University. Takesada, a naval technical lieutenant general, chief of the Naval Technical Institute and professor at the Imperial University of Tokyo, was born the second eldest son of Akitake Tokugawa, the last lord of the Mito domain, and later became the founder of the Matsudo Tokugawa branch.
