Mathematical Model Collection Made by the German Martin Schilling Company

Late 19th Century to early 20th Century / Plaster (replica based on the collection of the Department of Mathematics, the University of Tokyo, formerly a collection of the Department of Mathematics, Tokyo Imperial University) / UMUT

概要

These models can divided into those relating to algebraic geometry, to differential geometry and to the theory of complex functions. These are not conceptual models, but minute models based on actual numeric calculation. The modeling of complex surfaces being difficult, such a realization with a high degree of precision is most precious. The original models preserved at the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Science were imported in the early 20th Century by Professor Senkichi Nakagawa, and were actually used in the Department’s courses. The Martin Schilling Company ceased its model production in 1932 due to the decrease of demand.
