概要

The word coral indicates cnidarian amimals forming hard skeletons. Among them species used for jewelry are called precious corals. Their animal consists of a colony of numerous polyps and covers a hard skeleton of calcium carbonate. The skeleton with branches is beautifully red in color. Most species inhabit rocky bottoms in deep water.
