Stone Rods Collection

(a) / Late to Latest Jomon period / Polished stone implement / Anthropology and Prehistory department, UMUT

概要

A type of polished stone implement, considered to have been used in ritual ceremony, made from the Early to Latest Jomon period. Distributed widely from western Japan to the northern island Hokkaido, centered in northeastern Japan, they are classified according to morphology, size and manufacturing technique. The exhibited items were collected around 100 years ago through donation or from survey of the University of Tokyo anthropological staff, and are thought to belong to the Late and Latest Jomon period (circa 4000 to 3000 BP).
