Red Deer (Male)

2003 / Mongolia / Skeleton specimen / UMUT

概要

This species is a large deer that distributes in Europe, Central Asia and a part of Africa. The body height of the male can reach 150cm and weigh 200kg. The antler, which is the deer’s specific characteristic, is a bony structure that grows in spring and sheds annually after the copulating season in autumn. Big antlers are an appeal to females, as well as a symbol of the deer’s status toward other males, and can also be used for fighting. This red deer specimen was acquired during overseas research activity conducted by the UMUT staff.
