Cattle Horn (Bos primigenius)

概要

The horn consists of core living bone and surrounding sheath. This specimen is sheath detached from the skull. The horn is a pointed structure on the head which continuously grows throughout the animal’s life. On the other hand, the antler of the deer is a one-piece structure which sheds every year. The outer layer if the horn consists of Keratin, just as human nail. This specimen is polished so showing the extending and twisting growth process.
