概要

Charles Dickinson West (1847-1908) was an Irish teacher employed by the School of Engineering. Born in Dublin, he studied Mechanical Engineering at the Trinity College at the University of Dublin, and graduated in 1869. He then worked at the Bergenhead Steel Company for five years, where he acquired knowledge on ship building. He arrived in Japan in 1882 to replace Henry Dyer at the School of Engineering, where taught Mechanical as well as Marine Engineering. He remained in Japan until his death in 1908.
